Meaning: Meditate upon Lord Ramachandra, who has long arms, holds a bow and arrows, and is seated in the lotus posture. He wears yellow garments, his eyes resembling fresh lotus petals, and his expression is serene and pleasing.
Mata Sita seated on his left side, whose face is as radiant as a lotus flower, and her gaze lovingly meets his. Lord Rama’s complexion is like a dark raincloud, and he is adorned with various shining ornaments. His head is crowned with thick matted hair, exuding divine splendor.

चरितं रघुनाथस्य शतकोटि प्रविस्तरम्।
एकैकमक्षरं पुंसां महापातकनाशनम् ।। १ ।।

Meaning: The story of the Lord Shri Rama is so vast. His personality can be defined by millions of verses. Each syllable of this sacred verse is capable of destroying even the greatest sins of the human being. ॥1॥

ध्यात्वा नीलोत्पलश्यामं रामं राजीवलोचनम्।
जानकीलक्ष्मणोपेतं जटामुकुटमण्डितं ।। २ ।।

Meaning: Let us meditate upon Lord Rama, whose complextion is dark like a blue lotus and his eyes like a lotus flower. He is accompanied by Mata Sita and Lord Lakshmana, and his head is adorned with a crown of matted hair. ॥2॥

सासितूणधनुर्बाणपाणिं नक्तंचरान्तकम्।
स्वलीलया जगत्त्रातुमाविर्भूतमजं विभुम् ।। ३ ।।

Saasitoonadhanurbaanapaanim’
naktancharaantakam .

jagattraatumaavirbhootamajam’

Meaning: Let us meditate upon Lord Rama who destroys night-dwelling demons with his sword, quiver, arrows and a bow in his hand. who is incarnated on earth by his own will to protect this world. ॥3॥

रामरक्षां पठेत प्राज्ञः पापघ्नीं सर्वकामदाम्।
शिरो मे राघवः पातु भालं दशरथात्मजः ।। ४ ।।

Shiro me raaghavah’ paatu

Meaning: May the learned recite the Rama Raksha Stotram, which destroys all sins and grants all desires.
May the descendant of Raghu protect my head. May the son of Dasharatha protect my forehead. ॥4॥

कौसल्येयो दृशो पातु विश्वामित्रप्रियः श्रुति।
घ्राणं पातु मखत्राता मुखं सौमित्रिवत्सलः ।। ५ ।।

Kausalyeyo dri’shau paatu
vishvaamitrapriyah’ shrutee .
Ghraanam’ paatu makhatraataa
mukham’ saumitrivatsalah’ .. 5..

Meaning: May the son of Kausalya protect my eyes, may the lord Rama who is favorite of Sage Vishwamitra protect my ears.
May the savior of Yajna protect my nose, and may the Lord Rama who loves Lakshmana protect my mouth. ॥5॥

जिह्वां विद्यानिधिः पातु कण्ठं भरतवन्दितः।
स्कन्धौ दिव्यायुधः पातु भुजौ भग्नेशकार्मुकः ।। ६ ।।

jihvaam’ vidyaanidhih’ paatu
kant’ham’ bharatavanditah’ .
Skandhau divyaayudhah’ paatu
bhujau bhagneshakaarmukah’ .. 6..

Meaning: May Lord Rama, the treasure of knowledge, protect my tongue, and may the one worshipped by Bharata, protect my throat.
May the one who holds divine weapons protect my both shoulders, and may the one who broke Lord Shiva’s bow protect my both upper arms. ॥6॥

करौ सीतापतिः पातु हृदयं जामदग्न्यजित।
मध्यं पातु खरध्वंसी नाभिं जाम्बवदाश्रयः ।। ७ ।।

Karau seetaapatih’ paatu
hri’dayam’ jaamadagnyajit .
Madhyam’ paatu kharadhvam’see
naabhim’ jaambavadaashrayah’ .. 7..

Meaning: May Lord Rama, the husband of Sita, protect my both hands, and the one who defeated Parashurama protect my heart.
May the one who killed the demon named Khara protect my middle, and may the one who gave refuge to Jambavad protect my navel. ॥7॥

सुग्रीवेशः कटी पातु सक्थिनी हनुमत्प्रभुः।
उरु रघूत्तमः पातु रक्षःकुलविनाशकृताः ।। ८ ।।

Sugreeveshah’ kat’ee paatu
sakthinee hanumatprabhuh’ .
Ooroo raghoottamah’ paatu
rakshah’kulavinaashakri’t .. 8..

Meaning: May the master of Sugriva protect my waist, may the master of Hanuman protect my both hips.
May the best of Raghus and destroyer of the Rakshasa protect my both thighs. ॥8॥

जानुनी सेतुकृत पातु जंघे दशमुखांतकः।
पादौ विभीषणश्रीदः पातु रामअखिलं वपुः ।। ९ ।।

Jaanunee setukri’tpaatu
janghe dashamukhaantakah’ .
Paadau bibheeshanashreedah’
paatu raamo’khilam’ vapuh’ .. 9..

Meaning: May the one who built the bridge named Ramasetu protect my both knees, may the one who killed the ten-faced one, protect my both shins.
May the one who granted wealth to Vibhishana protect my both feet, may lord Sri Rama protect my entire body. ॥9॥

एतां रामबलोपेतां रक्षां यः सुकृति पठेत।
स चिरायुः सुखी पुत्री विजयी विनयी भवेत् ।। १० ।।

rakshaam’ yah’ sukri’tee pat’het .
Sa chiraayuh’ sukhee putree
vijayee vinayee bhavet .. 10..

Meaning: The virtuous one who chant this Stotra fortified with the power of Lord Rama, and blessed with long life, children, happiness, success and humility. ॥10॥

पातालभूतल व्योम चारिणश्छद्मचारिणः।
न द्रष्टुमपि शक्तास्ते रक्षितं रामनामभिः ।। ११ ।।

Paataalabhootala vyoma
chaarinashchhadmachaarinah’ .
Na drasht’umapi shaktaaste
rakshitam’ raamanaamabhih’ .. 11..

Meaning: They who travel in the hell, earth and heaven and who travel surreptitiously by changing their forms, would not be able to lay their gaze, upon the one protected by the name of Lord Rama. ॥11॥

रामेति रामभद्रेति रामचंद्रेति वा स्मरन।
नरौ न लिप्यते पापैर्भुक्तिं मुक्तिं च विन्दति ।। १२ ।।

Raameti raamabhadreti
raamachandreti vaa smaran .
Naro na lipyate paapaih’
bhuktim’ muktim’ cha vindati .. 12..

Meaning: Rama, Ramabhadrethi and Ramachandrethi, by remembering and chanting thus, one shall not be entangled in sin, and shall enjoy both worldly wealth and ultimate liberation. ॥12॥

जगज्जैत्रैकमन्त्रेण रामनाम्नाभिरक्षितम्।
यः कण्ठे धारयेत्तस्य करस्थाः सर्वसिद्धयः ।। १३ ।।

Jagajjaitraikamantrena
raamanaamnaabhirakshitam .
Yah’ kant’he dhaarayettasya
karasthaah’ sarvasiddhayah’ .. 13..

Meaning: The one who holds this mantra of Rama Nama, that has conquered the world, constantly in his throat, shall have all attainments in the palm of one’s hand. ॥13॥

वज्रपञ्जरनामेदं यो रामकवचं स्मरेत।
अव्याहताज्ञाः सर्वत्र लभते जयमंगलम् ।। १४ ।।

Vajrapanjaranaamedam’
yo raamakavacham’ smaret .
Avyaahataajnyah’ sarvatra
labhate jayamangalam .. 14..

Meaning: The one who remembers these name of lord Rama, which is the strongest protection, such a person is unscathed and finds victory everywhere. ॥14॥

आदिष्टवान् यथा स्वप्ने रामरक्षामिमां हरः।
तथा लिखितवान् प्रातः प्रबुद्धो बुधकौशिकः ।। १५ ।।

Aadisht’avaan yathaa svapne
raamarakshaamimaam’ harah’ .
Tathaa likhitavaan praatah’
prabuddho budhakaushikah’ .. 15..

Meaning: This protective hymn of Sri Rama was told by Lord Shiva in the dream,and was written down as it is by the sage named “Budhakaushika” the very next morning. ॥15॥

आरामः कल्पवृक्षाणां विरामः सकलापदाम्।
अभिरामस्त्रिलोकानां रामः श्रीमान स नः प्रभुः ।। १६ ।।

Aaraamah’ kalpavri’kshaanaam’
viraamah’ sakalaapadaam .
Abhiraamastrilokaanaam’ raamah’
shreemaan sa nah’ prabhuh’ .. 16..

Meaning: Who is like a garden of wish-fulfilling trees, and who removes our all obstacles and sufferings, and the one causes pleasantness to all words, that glorious Sri Rama, is our Lord. ॥16॥

तरुणौ रूपसम्पन्नौ सुकुमारौ महाबलौ।
पुण्डरीकविशालाक्षौ चीरकृष्णाजिनाम्बरौ ।। १७ ।।

sukumaarau mahaabalau .
Pund’areekavishaalaakshau

Meaning: May the two brothers who are young, full of beauty, and very strong, who have broad eyes like lotus, who wear the hides of trees ॥17॥

फलमूलाशिनौ दान्तौ तापसौ ब्रह्मचारिणौ।
पुत्रौ दशरथस्यैतौ भ्रातरौ रामलक्ष्मणौ ।। १८ ।।

Phalamoolaashinau daantau
taapasau brahmachaarinau .
Putrau dasharathasyaitau
bhraatarau raamalakshmanau .. 18..

Meaning: The Two sons of Dasharath, two brothers Shri Ram and Lakshman, the two brahmacharis who are subsisting on roots and fruits, and practicing penance and celibacy ॥18॥

शरण्यौ सर्वसत्वानां श्रेष्ठौ सर्वधनुष्मताम्।
रक्षःकुलनिहन्तारौ त्रायेतां नो रघूत्तमौ ।। १९ ।।

Sharanyau sarvasattvaanaam’
shresht’hau sarvadhanushmataam .
Rakshah’ kulanihantaarau
traayetaam’ no raghoottamau .. 19..

Meaning: who give protection to all beings and who are foremost among all the archers, who destroy whole army of demons, May these two best of Raghus, protect and save us. ॥19॥

आत्तसज्जधनुषाविषुस्पृशा वक्ष याशुगनिषङ्गसङ्गिनौ।
रक्षणाय मम रामलक्ष्मणावग्रतः पथि सदैव गच्छताम ।। २० ।।

Aattasajjadhanushaavishuspri’shaa
vaksha yaashuganishangasanginau .
Rakshanaaya mama raamalakshmanaavagratah’
pathi sadaiva gachchhataam .. 20..

Meaning: May both Rama and Lakshmana, equipped and ready with bows, with their hands on swift arrows packed in full quivers, ever more ahead in my path for my protection! ॥20॥

सन्नद्धः कवची खड्गी चापबाणधरो युवा।
गच्छन् मनोरथान नश्च रामः पातु सलक्ष्मणः ।। २१ ।।

Sannaddhah’ kavachee khad’gee
chaapabaanadharo yuvaa .
Gachchhanmanoratho’smaakam’
raamah’ paatu salakshmanah’ .. 21..

Meaning: Ever prepared in armor, and armed with a sword, bow and arrows, moving along with his brother Lakshmana, May lord Rama fulfill our wishes. ॥21॥

रामो दाशरथी शूरो लक्ष्मणानुचरो बली।
काकुत्स्थः पुरुषः पूर्णः कौसल्येयो रघूत्तमः ।। २२ ।।

Raamo daasharathih’ shooro
lakshmanaanucharo balee .
Kaakutsthah’ purushah’ poornah’
kausalyeyo raghoottamah’ .. 22..

Meaning: The strong and valorous son of Dasharatha, Lord Rama, followed by Lakshmana, the descendant of the kakutstha clan, the perfect and complete being, the son of Kaushalya, and the best of the Raghus, ॥22॥

वेदान्तवेद्यो यज्ञेशः पुराणपुरुषोत्तमः।
जानकीवल्लभः श्रीमानप्रमेयपराक्रमः ।। २३ ।।

Vedaantavedyo yajnyeshah’
puraanapurushottamah’ .
Jaanakeevallabhah’ shreemaana
prameya paraakramah’ .. 23..

Meaning: The one who perceived through Vedanta, who is lord of Yajnas, who is the best among all and eternal being, who is the beloved of Janaki, and whose bravery is immeasurable, ॥23॥

इत्येतानि जपन नित्यं मद्भक्तः श्रद्धयान्वितः।
अश्वमेधाधिकं पुण्यं सम्प्राप्नोति न संशयः ।। २४ ।।

Iityetaani japannityam’
madbhaktah’ shraddhayaanvitah’ .
Ashvamedhaadhikam’ punyam’
sampraapnoti na sam’shayah’ .. 24..

Meaning: Thus lord Shiva said, My devotee who recites these names of Rama with faith, He, without any doubt, will get religious merits more than the conducting the Aswamedha Yajnas. ॥24॥

रामं दुर्वादलश्यामं पद्माक्षं पीतवाससम।
स्तुवन्ति नामभिर्दिव्यैर्न ते संसारिणो नरः ।। २५ ।।

Raamam’ doorvaadalashyaamam’
padmaaksham’ peetavaasasam .
Stuvanti naamabhirdivyaih’
na te sam’saarino naraah’ .. 25..

Meaning: Two Rama, who is dark-hued like the durva petal, with lotus like eyes, clad in golden robes, the ones who praise his glorious names, are not bound by the cycles of life and death. ॥25॥

रामं लक्ष्मणपूर्वजं रघुवरं सीतापतिं सुन्दरं
काकुत्स्थं करुणार्णवं गुणनिधिं विप्रप्रियं धार्मिकम।
राजेन्द्रं सत्यसंधं दशरथतनयं श्यामलं शांतमूर्तिं
वन्दे लोकाभिरामं रघुकुलतिलकं राघवं रावणारिम ।। २६ ।।

Meaning: I salute that Sri Rama who is handsome, the elder brother of Lakshmana, the descendant of Raghus, the better half of Sita, the ocean of compassion, the treasure of virtues, the most beloved of the enlightened people, and protector of dharma, the king of kings, united with truth, the son of Dasharath, dark-complexioned, and the pleasant one. i bow to the one who causes pleasantness to all, who is the pinnacle of Raghus, and the enemy of Ravana. ॥26॥

रामाय रामभद्राय रामचंद्राय वेधसे।
रघुनाथाय नाथाय सीतायाः पतये नमः ।। २७ ।।

Meaning: I bow down to lord Rama, Rambhadra, Ranchandra, who is like the creator himself, I salute Lord Raghunatha, the consort of Mata Sita. ॥27॥

Meaning: I remember the feet of Sri Ramachandra in my mind. I praise them by my speech. I salute to them by bowing down my head. I take refuge in the lotus-feet of Sri Ramachandra by bowing myself down. ॥29॥

दक्षिणे लक्ष्मणो यस्य वामे च जनकात्मज।
पुरतो मारुतिर्यस्य तं वन्दे रघुनन्दनम् ।। ३१ ।।

Meaning: I salute that Rama the descendant of the Raghus, who is with Lakshmana to his right, and the daughter of king Janaka to his left, and who has Hanuman in his front. ॥31॥

लोकाभिरामं रणरंगधीरं राजीवनेत्रं रघुवंशनाथं।
कारुण्यरूपं करुणाकरं तं श्रीरामचन्द्रं शरणं प्रपद्ये ।। ३२ ।।

Meaning: The one who causes all pleasantness to the whole world, the one who is valorous in the field of battle, the one with lotus eyes, the one who is the lord of the Raghu-clan, the Personification and inducer of compassion, In that lord Shri Ramachandra, I seek refuge. ॥32॥

मनोजवं मारुततुल्यवेगं जितेन्द्रियं बुद्धिमतां वरिष्ठम।
वातात्मजं वानरयूथमुख्यं श्रीराम दूतं शरणं प्रपद्ये ।। ३३ ।।

Meaning: I take refuge in the lord Hanuman who is as fast as the mind, who is as swift as the wind, who is the master of the senses, who is the foremost amongst the learned, who is the son of wind-God, who is the leader of the Vanara forces, and the great messenger of Shri Rama. ॥33॥

कूजन्तं रामरामेति मधुरं मधुराक्षरम।
आरुह्य कविताशाखां वन्दे वाल्मीकिकोकिलम ।। ३४ ।।

madhuram’ madhuraaksharam .
Aaruhya kavitaashaakhaam’

Meaning: I bow down to the great Sage Valmiki who sings the glorious name of Rama as sweetly as a cuckoo, sitting atop the branch of poetic brilliance. ॥34॥

आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम्।
लोकाभिरामं श्रीरामं भूयो भूयो नमाम्यहम् ।। ३५ ।।

daataaram’ sarvasampadaam .
Lokaabhiraamam’ shreeraamam’
bhooyo bhooyo namaamyaham .. 35..

Meaning: I bow again and again to Shri Rama, who removes all obstacles, grants all wealth, and causes pleasantness to all world. ॥35॥

भर्जनं भवबीजानामर्जनं सुखसम्पदाम्।
तर्जनं यमदूतानां रामरामेति गर्जनम् ।। ३६ ।।

Meaning: The roar of Lord Rama’s name, is the destruction of the cause of rebirth, gives all the happiness and wealth, and is a scare to Yama’s (lord of death) messengers. ॥36॥

रामो राजमणिः सदा विजयते रामं रमेशं भजे
रामेणाभिहता निशाचरचमू रामाय तस्मै नमः।।
रामान्नास्ति परायणं परतरं रामस्य दासोस्म्यहं
